Council Corner - Focusing on Water Conservation
Council member Kent Shelton

West Jordan, like many cities in Utah, faces ongoing challenges with water supply, especially during these dry summer months. Conserving water isn’t just about reducing utility bills—it’s about safeguarding our natural resources, ensuring a sustainable supply for our families, parks, and local businesses for generations to come.

Small actions, such as fixing leaks, using drought-tolerant landscaping, and being mindful of outdoor watering, can make a big difference. Our community has already shown resilience and commitment to conservation through various programs and initiatives. I encourage all residents to participate in our water-saving efforts by adjusting sprinkler schedules, installing water-efficient fixtures, and taking advantage of rebates offered by the city.

Additionally, staying informed about local water restrictions and educating our neighbors about best practices can help ensure we’re all doing our part. Together, we can make conservation a way of life that benefits both our environment and our economy.Looking ahead, the city is dedicated to exploring innovative solutions to manage our water resources responsibly. We’re working on community outreach programs, educational campaigns, and partnerships to promote sustainable water use.

I invite every resident to join us in this effort—by conserving water today, we’re investing in a healthier, more resilient West Jordan for future generations. Let’s work together to protect our most vital resource and keep our city thriving.
